35mm hail? DAS Solar N-type modules demonstrate exceptional quality with robust performance

A severe convective weather system has recently impacted many regions with heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hailstorms. With a service life up to 25 years, photovoltaic modules may face the challenges of harsh environments and extreme weather conditions as solar power generation equipment that requires long-term outdoor operation. During a 35mm hail load test conducted by DAS Solar, the N-type modules exhibited a mere power degradation of 0.07% after 11 impact tests.

 

Hail testing is conducted by firing artificial ice balls at a specified height at a predetermined speed at various positions on photovoltaic modules using a pneumatic launching device. Under natural conditions, this simulates the impact and effect of hail on photovoltaic modules. During the test, the modules are constantly monitored for damage to their appearance and structure. Based on changes in appearance, electrical safety, and output performance, the test allows a comprehensive assessment of the photovoltaic modules' impact resistance and reliability under severe weather conditions.

 

The hail load test for DAS Solar N-type modules was conducted based on the IEC 61215 standards and requirements. Using large ice balls weighing 20.7g and 35mm in diameter, impacting the module surface at 27.2m/s. The test meticulously defined various test points on the module surface to verify the impact resistance of N-type modules comprehensively. There were 11 testing points, including the corner of the module frame, the side of the module, the edge of the cell, and the junction box, which is most vulnerable to hail damage.

 

DAS Solar N-type modules showed no internal or external defects after enduring 11 severe impacts from hailstones, nor did the modules have any moisture or electrical leaks. These modules demonstrated exceptional quality and robust performance by exhibiting a power attenuation of only 0.07 percent, significantly less than the 5% required by IEC test results.

In addition, DAS Solar N-type modules achieved a "VERY GOOD" rating in the latest PV Magazine module test due to the modules outstanding performance in appearance, EL, power temperature coefficient, and PID. With their successful passage of the hail load test, DAS Solar's N-type modules confirm their high reliability under extreme weather conditions like hail and strong winds.
